What happened

Mercedes-Benz USA is recalling certain 2017-2022 model year vehicles across multiple classes, including CLA-Class, GLA-Class, GLE-Class, GLS-Class, SLC-Class, A-Class, AMG GT-Class, C-Class, E-Class, S-Class, SL-Class, GLC-Class, CLS-Class, GLB-Class, and G-Class vehicles. The recall addresses a software error in the communication module's SIM card that can cause a mobile network connection failure, which would disable the vehicle's eCall emergency system and prevent occupants from contacting emergency services in a crash situation.

To fix this issue, Mercedes-Benz will update the communication module software through an Over-the-Air update or at a dealer, at no cost to owners. Owner notification letters were mailed beginning July 8, 2022, with additional letters sent in phases through September 2024. Affected owners should contact MBUSA customer service at 1-800-367-6372, and may reference recall numbers 2022060005 or 2023110006.
