What happened

Ford is recalling certain 2014-2015 Fusion and Lincoln MKZ vehicles, and 2015 Mustang vehicles that were originally sold or ever registered in Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Virginia, and Hawaii. A separated brake pedal bumper can cause brake lights to stay on continuously, which may confuse other drivers and increase crash risk. On automatic transmission vehicles, a missing brake pedal bumper can allow the driver to shift out of "PARK" without pressing the brake, potentially causing the vehicle to roll away and injuring someone. The issue is caused by exposure to environmental conditions such as high temperatures, high humidity, and salt air that corrode and separate the brake pedal bumper.

Ford dealers will replace the brake pedal bumpers and clutch pedal bumpers at no cost to owners. Interim notification letters were mailed on March 4, 2022, and owner notification letters were mailed on June 13, 2022. Affected owners should contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332, and can reference recall number 22S02.
