What happened

Mercedes-Benz USA is recalling certain 2017-2018 C-Class and 2018 E-Class Coupes and Cabriolets because the seatbacks on the front seats may not properly lock on the right side. If a seatback does not lock correctly and a crash occurs, the seatback may fold forward, which could increase the risk of injury to occupants.

Mercedes will notify owners and have dealers inspect and replace the seatback lock on affected vehicles at no charge. An initial owner letter was mailed on April 12, 2019, and owners will receive a second notification when the remedy becomes available. Affected consumers should contact Mercedes-Benz customer service at 1-800-367-6372 or reference recall number 2019040007.
