What happened

Mercedes-Benz USA, LLC is recalling certain 2010-2017 model year vehicles across multiple C-Class, E-Class, GLK-Class, and SLS AMG models due to a defect in the passenger frontal air bag inflator module. The affected vehicles were sold or registered in specific geographic zones across the United States and U.S. territories. The inflator may explode due to propellant degradation caused by long-term exposure to high humidity and temperature cycling, which could result in sharp metal fragments striking passengers or occupants and causing serious injury or death.

MBUSA will notify owners and dealers will replace the passenger frontal air bag module at no charge. The recall began March 29, 2019. Owners of affected vehicles should contact MBUSA customer service at 1-800-367-6372 to arrange for the repair.
