Daimler Vans USA is recalling certain 2014-2017 Freightliner Sprinter 2500 and 3500 vehicles and Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 2500 and 3500 vehicles. The front passenger air bag inflator modules in these vehicles may explode during a crash due to propellant degradation caused by long-term exposure to humidity and temperature changes. If the inflator explodes, it can release sharp metal fragments that may seriously injure or kill the driver or other occupants.
Affected owners will be notified by Daimler Vans USA, and dealers will replace the front passenger air bag module at no cost. The recall began on March 15, 2019. Consumers with questions or to arrange service should contact DVUSA customer service at 1-877-762-8267.
