What happened

Volvo Trucks North America is recalling certain 2004-2019 Volvo VHD trucks equipped with snow plow lamp preparation kits due to a problem with exterior lighting control. The snow plow headlights can be turned on independently without activating the marker and tail lamps, which reduces the vehicle's visibility and increases crash risk. Additionally, the high beam indicator will not function when the snow plow high beams are on. These vehicles do not comply with federal lighting safety standards.

To remedy this issue, Volvo will notify truck owners, and authorized dealers will update the snow plow light-related software at no charge. The recall process began on December 19, 2018. Affected owners should contact Volvo customer service at 1-800-528-6586 and reference recall number RVXX1804 to schedule the free software update with a dealer.
