Is my product affected?

2012 YAMAHA XTZ12; 2013 YAMAHA XTZ12

  • Brand YAMAHA

Check against the official notice below — it lists the full affected range.

What happened

Yamaha Motor Corporation is recalling certain 2012-2013 Yamaha XTZ12 Super Tenere motorcycles due to a wiring defect in the electrical system. Over time, a gap may develop in the protective sealant where the accelerator position sensor and throttle position sensor wires connect to the electronic control unit, which can cause corrosion on the wires. This corrosion may prevent the engine from returning to idle when the throttle is released, potentially causing a loss of control and increasing the crash risk.

To remedy the issue, Yamaha dealers will bypass the defective wire connection with a new sub-lead harness multi-connector at no cost to owners. Owners of affected motorcycles should contact Yamaha customer service at 1-800-962-7926 to arrange the repair. The recall began October 26, 2018, and Yamaha's reference number for this recall is 990122.
