Utility Trailer Manufacturing Company is recalling certain 2014-2016 refrigerated, dry van, and flatbed trailers manufactured between January 1, 2014, and March 4, 2016. The trailers are equipped with Bendix SR5 spring brake valves that may have been improperly machined, potentially causing a delay in the application of the parking brakes. This defect could allow the trailer to roll away after being uncoupled from the tractor, creating a crash or injury risk.
Utility will provide affected owners with a free remedy kit and instructions to repair the faulty relay valves. The company sent an interim notification to owners on July 27, 2016, and the recall began on August 18, 2016. Affected consumers should contact Utility customer service at 1-800-423-6591 to receive the remedy.
