General Motors is recalling certain 2016-2017 Buick Verano and 2016 Chevrolet Malibu vehicles, as well as several other model year vehicles that may have been serviced with defective parts. The problem involves an electronic park lock lever that may allow the ignition key to be removed even when the transmission is not in PARK. This creates a hazard where the vehicle could roll away while occupants are exiting, potentially causing injury.
To address this issue, GM will notify owners and dealers will inspect and replace the key cylinder lock housing at no charge if necessary. The recall began October 14, 2016. Owners of affected vehicles should contact their respective brand's customer service: Chevrolet at 1-800-222-1020, Buick at 1-800-521-7300, or GMC at 1-800-462-8782. The recall numbers are 50490 and 50491.
