What happened

General Motors is recalling certain 2016 Malibu Hybrid vehicles manufactured between October 27, 2015, and June 3, 2016. These vehicles contain a manual service disconnect switch (MSD) for the high-voltage battery that may not be properly installed and could fail to lock into position. If this occurs while driving, the switch may unexpectedly disconnect the high-voltage power, causing the vehicle to stall and increasing the risk of a crash.

To address this issue, GM will notify owners and dealers will inspect the MSD and correct the installation at no charge. The recall began on August 10, 2016. Affected owners should contact Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020, and can reference GM recall number 51230.
