What happened

General Motors is recalling certain 2014-2016 Chevrolet Caprice Police Pursuit and Chevrolet SS vehicles because the driver's seat belt tensioner cable may separate due to repeated bending as the driver enters and exits the vehicle. If the cable separates, the driver may not be properly restrained during a crash, increasing the risk of injury. The affected vehicles were manufactured between May 14, 2013 and June 14, 2016.

GM will notify owners at no cost. Dealers will inspect the tensioner cable assembly and replace any damaged cable. For vehicles that do not need a new tensioner assembly, a cable guide will be installed. All vehicles will receive new seat trim with a redesigned cable opening. Owners should contact Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020 with recall number 31340 to schedule service.
