What happened

Carrier Corporation is recalling certain starter assemblies used in Carrier Transicold trailer refrigeration units. The affected starters, identified by part number 25-39316-01 (Carrier Transicold or Performance Parts Group) or R-25-39316-00 (Thermo Engine Supply), were manufactured between April 1, 2009, and August 18, 2016. These starters may break apart during operation, and the broken pieces could strike anyone working near the starter, creating a risk of injury.

Carrier will replace the affected starter at no cost. The company first notified owners on January 24, 2017, and the recall officially began on May 19, 2017. Owners of affected units should contact Carrier customer service at 1-800-448-1661 to arrange for a replacement.
