PACCAR is recalling certain 2013-2014 Kenworth T680 and T880 trucks manufactured between January 18, 2012, and February 1, 2013, as well as 2013-2014 Peterbilt 579 and 567 vehicles manufactured between January 20, 2012, and January 31, 2013. These vehicles have an Exterior Lights Self-Test switch designed for use when parked, but if pressed while driving, it will turn off all exterior lighting, which could prevent drivers from seeing other vehicles, pedestrians, or objects and reduce visibility of the truck to others on the road.
To remedy this issue, PACCAR dealers will disable the Exterior Lights Self-Test software parameter and remove the Self-Test switch, replacing it with a switch plug. This service is being offered free of charge and began February 28, 2013. Affected owners should contact Kenworth at 1-425-828-5000 or Peterbilt at 1-940-591-4000.
