Champion Bus is recalling certain buses from model years 2006 and 2008-2013, including American Crusader, Challenger, Crusader, and Defender models manufactured between September 30, 2006, and November 16, 2012. These buses are equipped with Ricon wheelchair lifts that have an optional armored pendant cable. The cable may have been installed in a way that causes it to contact the power lug at the base of the wheelchair lift without proper clearance or protective cover, which could result in a short circuit and fire.
To remedy this issue, Ricon will provide affected owners with a supplemental cover kit and instructions at no charge. Owners of affected buses should contact Champion Bus at 1-819-724-6474 or Ricon at 1-818-267-3000 to receive the cover kit.
