2011 CHAMPION CTS; 2011 CHAMPION M1235
Check against the official notice below — it lists the full affected range.
Champion Bus is recalling certain 2011 CTS and M1235 trucks manufactured between March 9, 2011, and June 29, 2011, that are equipped with Cummins ISX or ISL diesel engines. These vehicles have V-band clamp assemblies (part numbers Q187684, Q187685, and Q187686) that connect the inlet and outlet sections to the diesel oxidation catalyst/diesel particulate filter housing. The T-bolts in these clamps can fracture and fail under stress, causing the clamps to loosen and the inlet or outlet sections to disconnect from the housing.
If the inlet or outlet sections disconnect, hot exhaust gases can vent before exiting the tailpipe, which creates a risk of combustion and fire. If both clamps fail, the entire DOC/DPF housing may detach, creating a road hazard. The recall began on October 10, 2011. Owners should contact Cummins at 1-812-377-5000 to be notified and schedule repairs, which will be performed free of charge by authorized Cummins dealers.

IF THE INLET OR OUTLET SECTIONS DISCONNECT, HOT EXHAUST GASES CAN VENT PRIOR TO EXITING THE TAILPIPE, CREATING THE RISK OF COMBUSTION AND A FIRE. IF BOTH CLAMPS FAIL, THERE IS A RISK IN SOME APPLICATIONS THAT THE DOC/DPF HOUSING MAY DETACH COMPLETELY, CREATING A ROAD HAZARD.
CHAMPION IS WORKING WITH CUMMINS TO IDENTIFY AND NOTIFY OWNERS OF THE RECALL CAMPAIGN. REPAIRS WILL BE PERFORMED BY AUTHORIZED CUMMINS DEALERS FREE OF CHARGE. THE SAFETY RECALL BEGAN OCTOBER 10, 2011. OWNERS MAY CONTACT CUMMINS AT 1-812-377-5000.
