Cricket EZ cellular phones are being recalled due to a software problem that causes audio problems during 911 emergency calls. The defect may prevent the 911 operator from hearing the caller, or prevent the caller from hearing the 911 operator. The affected phones are small, black and silver bar-style models with "Cricket" printed on top above the display panel and model number "CRKJ88BKIT" located on a label inside the battery compartment. Phones with model numbers ending in "B" (CRKJ88BKITB), those with a green dot on the inside label, and units sold after March 2008 are not affected by this recall.
According to the recall notice, consumers with affected phones should immediately return their phone to Cricket for a free software repair. Cricket is directly contacting consumers who purchased these phones to notify them of the recall.
