What happened

Polaris Industries is recalling approximately 900 model year 2005 "900 Fusion" and "900 RMK 151" snowmobiles. The fuel connections between the fuel line and fuel pump and fuel filter can leak, potentially causing fuel leakage and fire that could result in severe injury or death. Additionally, some drive shafts may have been incorrectly heat treated, making them brittle and prone to failure at lower loads than designed, which could result in loss of braking and severe injury or death.

Owners of affected snowmobiles can identify them by checking the vehicle identification tag on the right side near the foot rest for model numbers S05MP8DS(A)(B)(C) or S05PL8DSA. The affected vehicles have either red/black or blue/silver/black seats with a red, black, or blue hood, and display "Fusion 900" or "RMK 900" on the body sides. According to the record, affected consumers should contact their Polaris dealer to schedule an appointment for free repair, which includes installation of fuel line connection clamps and a replacement drive shaft.
