Mercedes-Benz USA is recalling certain 2017-2019 model year vehicles including the C300, C300 Coupe, CLS450, E300, E400 Coupe, E400 Stationwagon, E450 Coupe, S450, and S560 that have previously had their instrument cluster replaced. In these vehicles, the replacement instrument cluster software may cause the seat belt warning system to malfunction, displaying only a solid warning light when a front seat occupant's seat belt is unfastened instead of the proper blinking light accompanied by an audible tone.
Without the audible tone and blinking warning light functioning as designed, front seat occupants may forget to buckle their seat belts, increasing their risk of injury in a crash. To remedy this issue, MBUSA will notify owners and dealers will update the instrument cluster software at no charge. Affected consumers should contact MBUSA customer service at 1-800-367-6372 and reference recall number 2020080015 to schedule the software update.
