What happened

Ferrari North America is recalling certain 2009-2011 California and 2010-2011 458 Italia vehicles because the front passenger air bag inflators may explode after prolonged exposure to high humidity, high temperatures, and temperature changes. These inflators contain ammonium nitrate propellant that can degrade over time, and an explosion could send sharp metal fragments toward the driver or passengers, potentially causing serious injury or death.

Ferrari will notify owners and replace the front passenger air bag assembly with a new one containing a non-ammonium nitrate inflator at no charge. The recall began March 8, 2020. Affected consumers should contact Ferrari customer service at 1-201-816-2668, and may reference recall number 60FL.
