What happened

Ferrari North America, Inc. is recalling certain 2009-2011 Ferrari California and 2010-2011 Ferrari 458 Italia vehicles that have not had their passenger frontal air bag replaced. The passenger frontal air bag modules contain inflators that may explode during a crash due to propellant degradation from long-term exposure to humidity and temperature changes. An inflator explosion could result in metal fragments striking vehicle occupants, causing serious injury or death.

Ferrari will notify owners, and authorized dealers will replace the passenger frontal air bag assembly with one using an alternate inflator at no cost. Affected consumers should contact Ferrari customer service at 1-201-816-2668 to arrange the replacement.
