What happened

Continental Tire the Americas, LLC is recalling certain Continental and General brand tires that may have been over cured during manufacturing. Over cured tires can develop breaks in the sidewall or belt edge separation, which can cause sudden air loss or tread loss and potentially lead to loss of vehicle control and crashes. The recall affects multiple tire models and sizes with specific DOT codes and mold numbers, including ProContact, CrossContact, Reliatrek, Altimax, and Grabber brand tires.

Continental Tire will notify owners who purchased the tires as replacement equipment, and various vehicle manufacturers will conduct recalls for tires that were original equipment. Affected tires will be inspected at no charge to verify they are affected, and defective tires will be replaced at no cost. The recall began November 30, 2020. Owners of affected tires should contact Continental Tire customer service at 1-888-799-2168 for more information.
