What happened

Mitsubishi Motors North America is recalling all 2016-2017 i-MiEV vehicles because certain passenger side frontal air bag inflators may rupture during a crash. When this happens, metal fragments from the inflator may strike vehicle occupants and cause serious injury or death.

To address this issue, Mitsubishi dealers will replace the passenger side frontal air bag inflator at no charge. The recall began on December 15, 2017. Owners of affected vehicles should contact Mitsubishi Motors North America customer service at 1-888-648-7820, referencing recall number SR-17-008, to arrange for the replacement.
