What happened

Daimler Vans USA is recalling certain 2012 Freightliner and Mercedes Benz Sprinter 2500 and 3500 vehicles equipped with specific passenger-side air bag inflators. The inflators may rupture during a crash when the air bag deploys because the propellant degrades over time when exposed to humidity and temperature changes. If rupture occurs, metal fragments could strike vehicle occupants and cause serious injury or death.

To remedy this defect, DVUSA dealers will replace the passenger-side air bag module at no charge. The recall began on January 12, 2018. Affected consumers should contact DVUSA customer service at 1-877-762-8267 to arrange the replacement.
