Mercedes-Benz USA is recalling certain 2016 GLE-series vehicles and 2017 GLS450 and GLE-series vehicles because excess bulkhead insulation may extend into the lower windshield area and affect windshield bonding. This condition could prevent the passenger's frontal air bag from functioning properly during a crash, increasing the risk of injury to the front seat passenger.
Owners will receive an interim letter in December 2017, followed by a second notice in late January 2018 when the remedy becomes available. Dealers will remove excess bulkhead insulation and rework the windshield bonding as needed at no charge. MBUSA will notify owners, and dealers will remove any excess bulkhead insulation and rework the windshield bonding, as necessary, free of charge.
