Ford is recalling certain 2013-2017 Ford Focus hatchback vehicles with manual transmissions manufactured between February 14, 2012, and August 26, 2016. The hatchback can be unlatched with only a single press of the interior release button, which poses a safety risk because unsecured passengers in the back could be injured if the hatchback opens accidentally while the vehicle is in motion. This condition fails to meet federal safety standards for door locks and retention components.
Ford will notify owners of the recall and dealers will reprogram the Body Control Module with updated software at no charge to the owner. The recall began February 10, 2017. Owners should contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332 to arrange service, and can reference Ford's recall number 16C13.
