What happened

Navistar is recalling certain 2016 IC Bus RE school buses manufactured between January 25, 2016, and March 31, 2016, that are equipped with Freedman-brand passenger seats with integrated child seats. The seats in these vehicles may separate from the base frame during a crash due to bolt failure, which increases the risk of injury to occupants and violates federal safety standards.

Navistar has already completed repair work on all affected vehicles at no cost to owners. The company will not be sending owner notifications. Owners of affected vehicles should contact Navistar customer service at 1-331-332-1590 for information about their vehicle.

(Navistar) is recalling certain model year 2016 IC Bus RE school buses manufactured January 25, 2016, to March 31, 2016, equipped with Freedman-brand passenger seats with integrated child seats (ICS). These seats may separate from the base frame due to bolt failure. As, such these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 222, "School Bus Passenger Seating and Crash Protection."
