What happened

Coach and Equipment Mfg. Corp. is recalling certain 2014-2015 Metro Lite, 2015 Pegasus, and 2014-2015 Phoenix buses equipped with specific Ricon wheelchair lift models. The recalled lifts may have cracked platform side plates or link arms with oversized pivot holes that allow bearings to shift out of position. These defects can cause the lift platform to separate from the lift and potentially fall onto the operator when the vehicle doors are opened, posing an injury risk.

Owners will be notified by Coach and Equipment, and authorized Ricon dealers will inspect the link arms for damage and displaced bearings, as well as inspect the platform for cracks. Any damaged parts will be replaced at no charge. The recall began on June 29, 2016. Affected consumers should contact Coach and Equipment customer service at 1-800-724-8464.

Hazard

If the platform side plates crack or the platform mounting fails from out-of-position bearings, the lift platform can separate from the lift and come to rest against the vehicle's lift door. When the vehicle's doors are opened, the platform may fall onto the lift operator, increasing their risk of injury.

What should I do?

Coach and Equipment will notify owners, and Ricon dealers will inspect the link arms for damage or for displaced bearings. The platform will be inspected for cracks. Any damaged parts will be replaced, free of charge. The recall began on June 29, 2016. Owners may contact Coach and Equipment customer service at 1-800-724-8464.
