Coach & Equipment Mfg. Corp. is recalling certain 2006-2014 Alley Cat, Condor LT, Metro Lite, Pegasus, and Phoenix transit buses equipped with specific Ricon wheelchair lift models manufactured between January 1, 2006, and September 18, 2014. The wheelchair lift platforms on these buses have a defect where pivot holes in the folding link arms may be oversized, causing bearings to shift out of position. If the bearings move, the stowed platform can develop excessive movement that may lead to failure of the platform mounting, potentially causing the wheelchair lift platform to fall out of the vehicle when the doors are opened and injuring the lift operator.
Coach & Equipment will notify owners, and authorized Ricon dealers will inspect the link arms for damage or displaced bearings and examine the platform for cracks. Any damaged parts will be replaced at no cost. Consumers affected by this recall should contact Coach & Equipment customer service at 1-800-724-8464 or Ricon Customer Service at 1-800-322-2884 to schedule an inspection. The recall number is 15E-068. The source notes that vehicles which received a similar recall remedy in 2014 are still affected by this recall and also require the current inspection and any necessary repairs.
