Hyundai is recalling certain 2015-2016 Sonata vehicles, 2017 Elantra vehicles, and one 2016 Sonata Hybrid because the driver's frontal air bag may be missing a chemical enhancer needed for the second stage of air bag deployment. If the second stage does not deploy during a crash, the risk of injury to the driver increases, though the primary stage of the air bag will still deploy as intended.
If you own an affected vehicle, Hyundai will notify you and dealers will replace the driver's frontal air bag module at no cost. The recall began May 5, 2016. To proceed, contact Hyundai customer service at 1-855-371-9460 and reference recall number 144.
