Hyundai Motor America is recalling certain 2011-2012 Elantra vehicles manufactured between October 29, 2010, and October 25, 2011, due to a malfunction in the electronic stability control (ESC) sensor. This defect can cause the brakes on one or more wheels to be applied unexpectedly and may reduce engine power, which could result in loss of vehicle control and increased crash risk. Owners will notice the ESC indicator lamp illuminating on their instrument cluster when this occurs.
Hyundai will notify owners at no charge. Dealers will check that the ESC sensors are operating properly and update the ESC system's calibration. The recall began on June 6, 2016. Owners of affected vehicles should contact Hyundai customer service at 1-800-633-5151 and reference recall number 137 to schedule the necessary service.
