What happened

Halcore Group, Inc. is recalling certain wheelchair lifts installed in model year 2006-2013 American Emergency Vehicles (AEV) Ambulance Wheelchair Vans manufactured between January 2, 2006 and March 15, 2013. The affected lifts include certain Ricon Corporation models S2005, S2010, S5005, S5010, S5505, and S5510. These lifts have folding link arms with pivot holes that may be too large, which can allow bearings to move out of position and cause the stowed platform to move excessively.

If the platform bearings become displaced, the wheelchair lift platform mounting may fail, potentially causing the lift platform to fall out of the vehicle when doors are opened, posing an injury risk to lift operators. To address this issue, Ricon dealers will inspect the link arms for damage or displaced bearings and inspect the platform for cracks. Any damaged parts will be replaced at no cost. Affected owners should contact Ricon Customer Service at 1-800-322-2884 or AEV customer service at 1-800-374-9749, referencing recall number 15E-068.

Hazard

If the bearings move out of position, the stowed platform may have excessive movement resulting in failure of the platform mounting. This failure could cause the wheel chair lift platform to fall out of the vehicle when the doors are opened, increasing the risk of injury for the lift operator.

What should I do?

Halcore will notify the owners, and Ricon dealers will inspect the link arms for damage or for displaced bearings. The platform will be inspected for cracks.
