What happened

Bergstrom Inc. is recalling certain ParkSmart HVAC Auxiliary units installed in Freightliner Cascadia trucks due to a fire hazard. The affected models are A22-69027-004, A22-69027-005, A22-72122-001, A22-72122-002, and BSM 1000627018. The problem occurs when there is inadequate electrical contact between the connector on the compressor harness and the compressor's electrical pins, which can cause excessive heat and increase fire risk.

To remedy this issue, Daimler Trucks North America will have authorized Freightliner dealers replace the connector caps at no cost to owners. Dealers will also replace the harnesses if there is visible heat discoloration. The recall began on May 13, 2016. Owners of affected vehicles should contact Bergstrom customer service at 1-866-204-8570 to arrange the repairs.
