Ford is recalling certain 2013-2014 Escape vehicles and Focus ST vehicles equipped with 2.0 liter engines. The affected Escape vehicles were manufactured between October 5, 2011, and April 1, 2013, while the Focus ST vehicles were manufactured between February 14, 2012, and October 14, 2013. The problem involves insufficient compression in engine wiring harness splices connected to the Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP) sensor, which may cause incorrect signals to be sent to the vehicle's powertrain control module.
These incorrect signals could cause the vehicle to hesitate or the engine to stall, increasing the risk of a crash. Ford began notifying owners in October 2014 and will replace the faulty crimped splices with new splices at no charge. Owners of affected vehicles should contact Ford customer service at 1-800-392-3673 to arrange the free replacement repair. Ford's recall number for this issue is 14S17.
