What happened

Ford is recalling certain 2012-2013 Focus BEV vehicles and 2013 Focus ST vehicles equipped with High Intensity Discharge headlights due to a wiring incompatibility that may cause the front side marker lamps to not function. Vehicles affected include Focus BEV models manufactured between September 15, 2011 and May 6, 2013, and Focus ST models manufactured between February 16, 2012 and May 7, 2013. Without proper illumination of the side marker lamps, the vehicle may be less visible during nighttime driving, increasing the risk of a crash.

Ford began notifying owners on August 16, 2013. The remedy involves dealers modifying the headlamp assembly wiring at no charge to the owner. Affected owners should contact the Ford customer relationship center at 1-866-436-7332 to arrange service. Ford's recall number is 13C04.
