Ford is recalling certain 2013 Escape vehicles manufactured between October 5, 2011, and November 26, 2012, with 1.6L engines, and certain 2013 Fusion vehicles manufactured between February 3, 2012, and November 29, 2012, with 1.6L engines. The vehicles have coolant system leaks that can cause engines to overheat and leak flammable fluids, which could contact the hot exhaust system and cause a vehicle fire.
Ford dealers will inspect the engine for coolant leaks and reprogram the vehicle's powertrain control module and instrument cluster with updated software at no cost to owners. Owners will soon receive notifications instructing them to contact their Ford dealers to schedule the free repair. Owners may also contact Ford Motor Company Customer Relationship Center at 1-866-436-7332.

If flammable engine fluids come in contact with the vehicles hot exhaust system, a vehicle fire could occur.
Ford will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the engine for coolant system leaks and reprogram the vehicles powertrain control module and instrument cluster with an updated calibration and overheat strategy software. There will be no charge to owners for this service. Owners were recently notified to contact dealers to arrange for alternative transportation as Ford developed a remedy.
