Daimler Trucks North America is recalling certain 2013 model year Freightliner, Western Star, Freightliner Custom Chassis trucks, and Thomas Built buses manufactured between April 18, 2012 and May 11, 2012 that are equipped with Detroit Axle-brand front axle knuckles. These vehicles may have a machining error in the wheel bearing area of the front knuckles that could cause the spindle to fail prematurely. If the spindle fails, the wheel may separate from the knuckle, resulting in loss of vehicle control and increasing the risk of a crash.
Daimler Trucks North America will notify owners of the recall, which began on August 10, 2012. Dealers will inspect and replace the affected components at no charge to owners. Owners of affected vehicles should contact Daimler Trucks North America at 1-800-547-0712.
