What happened

Sutphen Corporation is recalling certain 2010 model year SL75 vehicles and 2010-2011 Pumpers and Rescue firefighting vehicles equipped with Cummins ISB, ISX, or Diesel engines. The vehicles have a defect in the V-band clamp assembly that connects parts of the engine cooling system to the diesel oxidation catalyst/diesel particulate filter housing. The T-bolt in this assembly can fracture and fail under stress, causing the clamp to loosen and inlet or outlet sections to disconnect from the housing.

If the inlet or outlet sections disconnect, hot exhaust gases can vent before exiting the tailpipe, creating a risk of combustion and fire. If both clamps fail, the housing may detach completely in some applications, creating a road hazard. Sutphen is working with Cummins to identify and notify affected owners. Authorized Cummins dealers will perform repairs at no charge. Owners should contact Cummins at 1-812-377-5000 or Sutphen at 1-866-287-5549 to arrange service.

Hazard

IF THE INLET OR OUTLET SECTIONS DISCONNECT, HOT EXHAUST GASES CAN VENT PRIOR TO EXITING THE TAILPIPE, CREATING THE RISK OF COMBUSTION AND A FIRE. IF BOTH CLAMPS FAIL, THERE IS A RISK IN SOME APPLICATIONS THAT THE DOC/DPF HOUSING MAY DETACH COMPLETELY, CREATING A ROAD HAZARD.

What should I do?

SUTPHEN IS WORKING WITH CUMMINS TO IDENTIFY AND NOTIFY OWNERS OF THE RECALL CAMPAIGN. REPAIRS WILL BE PERFORMED BY AUTHORIZED CUMMINS DEALERS, FREE OF CHARGE. THE SAFETY RECALL BEGAN DURING OCTOBER 2011. OWNERS MAY CONTACT CUMMINS AT 1-812-377-5000 OR SUTPHEN AT 1-866-287-5549.
