Navistar is recalling certain model year 2007-2012 IC CE and BE commercial buses manufactured between June 27, 2006, and March 23, 2011, with specific Maxxforce 7 engine and alternator feature codes. The positive alternator cable in these vehicles may rub against the engine control module mounting bracket, potentially damaging the cable's insulation and creating an electrical short that could cause a vehicle fire, resulting in property damage, personal injury, or death.
To remedy the issue, dealers will inspect and replace the alternator cable if necessary at no charge to owners. Tie straps will also be installed to route the alternator cable away from the engine control module mounting bracket. The recall began on September 27, 2011, and owners of affected vehicles should contact Navistar at 1-800-448-7825.
