Navistar is recalling certain 2007-2012 IC CE and BE school buses manufactured between June 27, 2006, and March 23, 2011, that are equipped with specific Maxxforce 7 engine and alternator models. The positive alternator cable in these vehicles may rub against the engine control module mounting bracket, which could damage the cable's insulation and create an electrical short. This electrical short poses a risk of vehicle fire that could result in property damage, personal injury, or death.
Navistar will notify affected owners, and authorized dealers will inspect the alternator cable and replace it if necessary, along with installing tie straps to route the cable away from the engine control module mounting bracket. These repairs will be performed at no cost to owners. The recall began on September 27, 2011. Owners of affected vehicles should contact Navistar at 1-800-448-7825.
