Playtex Products is voluntarily recalling certain latex pacifiers because the latex ages faster than normal, which can cause the nipple to detach from the shield and create a choking hazard for babies. The recall affects only Classic Patterns "Cherubs" and Soft Comfort latex pacifiers. Classic Patterns pacifiers have "Cherubs" embossed in bold letters on the colored knob, while Soft Comfort pacifiers have a soft, butterfly-shaped shield with "Playtex" embossed on the swivel handle. These pacifiers were sold individually or in two-packs in various colors and designs under nine different UPC codes.
According to the recall notice, consumers should immediately stop using the recalled pacifiers and mail them directly to Playtex at Playtex Pacifiers, Playtex Products Inc., 20 Troy Road, Whippany, NJ 07981. Playtex will provide either a free replacement pacifier or a $3 coupon toward the purchase of another Playtex infant feeding or soothing product, and will reimburse consumers for postage costs.
