What happened

Midea has recalled multiple brands of dehumidifiers ranging from 25 to 75 pints in capacity because they can overheat, smoke, and catch fire, creating serious fire and burn hazards. The recalled brands include Airworks, Alen, Arctic King, Danby, Frigidaire, GE, Honeywell, Kenmore (Canada), Keystone, Midea, Pelonis, Royal Sovereign, SPT, and many others. According to the recall notice, $4.8 million in property damage has been reported related to these units.

If you own one of the recalled dehumidifiers, you should immediately turn off and unplug it. You can then contact GD Midea for either a replacement unit or a partial refund depending on when your unit was manufactured—those made before October 1, 2008 will receive a partial refund instead of a replacement. To determine if your dehumidifier is recalled, you can enter the model number at https://www.recallrtr.com/dehumidifier.
