What happened

GE brand 30-pint portable dehumidifiers sold exclusively at Walmart are being recalled because a component in the compressor can short circuit, creating a fire hazard. The recalled units are white plastic dehumidifiers measuring approximately 19 inches tall, 13 inches wide, and 9 inches deep with a front-loading water bucket. Model ADKW30LN units with serial numbers beginning with AT1, DT1, FT1, or GT1 and manufactured between January 2010 and April 2010 are affected. The model and serial number can be found on a label on the back of the unit, with "GE" branding and digital controls located on top.

Consumers who own a recalled dehumidifier should immediately stop using it, unplug it, and contact Midea for instructions on how to return it for a free repair. The dehumidifiers should not be returned to Walmart or the retailer where they were purchased.

The model, serial and manufacture dates included in the recall are: Model Number Serial Number Begins with: Manufacture Date ADKW30LN AT1, DT1, FT1 or GT1 2010/01 through 2010/04 (for January 2010 through April 2010)
