Pacific Trade International is recalling tea light candles sold under the Chesapeake Bay Candle and Modern Light brand names due to a hazard where the clear plastic cups can melt or ignite, creating a fire and burn risk. The affected candles were sold at Fred Meyer, Super Value, Target, TJX/Marshall's/Homegoods, and Wegmans between July 2009 and February 2011 in various product sets and quantities, with prices ranging from about $1 to $12. Only tea lights without lettering imprinted on the bottom of the cup are included in this recall.
According to the recall notice, consumers who have these candles should immediately stop using them and return them to the store where they were purchased for a store merchandise card equal to the purchase price.
