What happened

Springfield Wire is recalling Ritchie Immersion Heaters in three models: 17863 (120v/250w), 17939 (240v/250w or 240v/325w), and 17940 (240v/325w). These devices are designed to be submerged in cattle troughs to prevent water from freezing. The outer cover of the heater can crack during use, which exposes the heating element to water and creates a shock hazard. You can identify a recalled heater by the model number and "SWI" printed on one side of the heating element and a "Ritchie Specialty Products" sticker on the other side.

According to the recall notice, consumers should immediately stop using the affected immersion heater and return it to the place of purchase for a free replacement.
