What happened

Briggs & Stratton is recalling snow thrower engines due to a fire hazard. When the engines are primed, excess fuel can overflow into the carburetor and ignite, creating fire and burn hazards. The recall affects snow equipment with Briggs & Stratton OHV engines with model numbers beginning with 12, 15, 20, or 21 and manufactured between June 2001 and March 2007. These engines were installed on snow throwers sold under the brand names Ariens, Canadiana, Craftsman, Frontier Equipment, Husqvarna, Poulan Pro, Simplicity, and Snapper.

According to the recall notice, affected consumers should immediately stop using the snow throwers. Consumers should call or contact Briggs & Stratton to arrange for a free repair. The engine model number and date of manufacture code can be found on the cylinder shield or rocker cover to determine if a specific snow thrower is included in the recall.
