CPSC, Cenex Harvest States Cooperatives Announce Recall to Inspect Propane Gas

Is my product affected?

Propane gas

  • Brand Cenex Harvest States Cooperatives (CHS), of Inver Grove Heights, Minn.

Check against the official notice below — it lists the full affected range.

What happened

Cenex Harvest States Cooperatives (CHS) is recalling propane gas that may have contained insufficient odorant, which is added to propane to make gas leaks detectable by smell. Without adequate odorant, consumers cannot smell leaking propane, creating hazards of fire, explosion, or thermal burns. The affected propane was produced at the CHS Refinery in Laurel, Montana and distributed through various dealers and cooperatives across Idaho, Montana, Oregon, Washington, and Wyoming.

Consumers who received propane deliveries or purchased propane from any of the listed dealers since June 1, 2000, should contact their propane gas supplier or the retail location where portable cylinders were filled to arrange for testing. If testing reveals that odorant levels are too low to be detected by smell, the odorant can be corrected on-site at that location.
