Panasonic Corporation of North America is recalling DLP projector models PT-D5500U and PT-D5500UL due to a grounding defect that could pose an electric shock hazard. If the lamp drive circuit touches the shield case, the unit may not be properly grounded, creating a potential shock risk if a person contacts metal terminals on the back of the unit. The recall affects units with specific serial numbers including SH5120010 and various SH5169000, SH5219000, SH5229000, and SH5239000 series numbers, which can be found on the side panel of affected units.
According to the recall, consumers should immediately stop using the projectors. Panasonic will contact each customer to arrange for a free repair and retrofit of the affected units.
