What happened

Black & Decker and Craftsman cordless electric lawn mowers are being recalled because an electrical component can overheat and create a fire hazard. The recalled Black & Decker models are CMM1000 or CMM1000R with date codes from 9534 through 200230, identified by an orange or green deck cover with black motor cover and "Black & Decker" and "Cordless" printed on top. The recalled Craftsman models, sold at Sears, have model number 900.370520 with any date code, featuring a dark green deck with black motor cover and "Craftsman" and "24 Volt Cordless" printed on top. The model number and date code can be found on the silver and black label on the rear door of the mower.

Consumers who own either recalled model should stop using the mower immediately. Black & Decker mower owners should call Black & Decker to get information about receiving a free repair. Craftsman mower owners should take their mower to the nearest Sears store or Sears product repair center to receive a free repair.
