What happened

Black & Decker is recalling certain GH1000 Grasshog XP String Trimmers/Edgers because the spool, spool cap, and trimmer string pieces can loosen during use and become airborne projectiles that may cause lacerations to the user or bystanders. The recall affects electric-powered models manufactured between November 14, 2005 and November 6, 2006, identified by date codes 200546 through 200645 located on the underside of the handle. Only units with black spool caps are included; those with orange spool caps are not affected.

Consumers who own an affected trimmer should stop using it immediately and contact Black & Decker to receive a free repair kit.

Hazard

The trimmer/edger's spool, spool cap and pieces of trimmer string can come loose during use and become airborne projectiles, posing a laceration hazard to the user as well as bystanders.
