Yamaha is recalling 2014 competition off-road motorcycles with model numbers YZ250FEL, YZ250FEW, YZ450FEL, and YZ450FEW. These two-wheeled motorcycles are blue and white or red and white in color, with "YZ250F" or "YZ450F" printed on the left and right side panels. The motorcycles have a defective drive chain that can detach while in use, which could cause the rider to lose control and crash.
According to the recall notice, consumers who own one of these motorcycles should immediately stop using it and contact their local Yamaha dealer to schedule a free repair. Yamaha is contacting registered owners directly about this issue. Consumers can identify a recalled motorcycle by checking the VIN number stamped on the frame at the steering stem—if the letter in the 10th position is "E," the motorcycle was made in the 2014 model year and is part of this recall.
